It’s amazing to see that the end of the school year has arrived. I want to thank you all for all the support and patience shown these past 10 months. We had successes and some challenges, yet despite all, we continued the work that has to be done. There are countless people to whom I owe an expression of agradeciemiento and hope that we continue working together in the coming years. We had the opportunity to continue our work with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, PBIS. We had great success with the establishment of student assemblies for recognizing their hard work and effort. An integral part of these initiatives is Fuego, our mascot, which certainly looks beautiful with all the golden feathers. Thank you, Mrs. Patterson. There are not enough words to express the gratitude that we have for its creation and maintenance. An expression of thanks also goes to all the volunteers who were in classrooms and outside them supporting teachers in everything possible. Your presence and support make a much stronger Fairmount. We hope to continue counting on you in the years to come.
My thanks go also to Ericka Shoemaker, Elva Reyes, and Mayella Lopez, who as leaders of different groups of parents have given me their support and in achieving the school’s priorities. Thank you!
Student Class Assignments
We have been working diligently on class assignments for next year. As many of you know, our process is to have teachers make recommendations on student groupings for the following year.
Our CARE Team (student support team) reviews these recommendations, makes additional suggestions to accommodate, for example, para-professional support, and the final approval rests with the principal. This year has been no different. You will receive class assignments in the mail during the second week of August. We cannot accommodate requests for changes at that time and we are unable to disseminate any information on class assignments before that time. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Many you were informed the last day of school that several of our teachers are leaving Fairmount. Ms. Rosario is retiring. We wish her the best of luck and all the joy she deserves. Coach Adam returns to North Carolina to work on his teaching credential. Ms. Francisca from our special education class 3-5 is going to another school where she will put to work her ability to serve deaf or hard of hearing students. Ms. Woo was with us temporarily to cover the sabbatical of one of our teachers. Ms. Woo will go to another school. Ms. McLaughlin was also with us temporarily and though she is not assigned to any specific school yet, I am sure she will find one with no problem. Ms. Leon agreed to fill a vacancy at another school. Ms. Melendez will pursue her master’s degree. Mr. Anderson accepted another position at another school because his position with us was reduced to .5 FTE. Mr. Sinkler accepted a position at a school closer to home. Ms. Alison will be on maternity leave. We are now in search of an adequate substitute. Mr. Novella will be going on sabbatical in 2016-2017. To all of them we wish them luck and know that you take part of our heart with you.
Given the different staff departures, we had to make some changes to the existing personnel. Starting with kindergarten, the team will consist of Mr. Cuervo, Ms. Garcia and Ms. Murillo. First grade will be composed of teachers Baker, Amezcua, and Hernandez. Second grade will be composed of Ms. Julie, Mr. Ledesma, and Ms. Kohnen. Third grade, Ms. Tirado, Mr. Zarate, and Ms. Marianna. Fourth grade will be Mr. Portillo, Ms. Monica, and Ms. Rodriguez. Fifth grade teachers will be Ms Salmeron and Ms. Wolf.
We do not have anyone to cover Mr. Anderson’s vacancy. The physical education and school health departments informed me that they have candidates to fill these positions. These are quite a few changes, I know, and I also know that a strong group of teacher leaders remains and together we are going to continue the work we have been doing to date. With all this, it should be noted that there is a possibility of additional changes when we return in August as unforeseen events due tend to happen. Therefore, I ask for your cooperation in case this happens.
I want to wish you a great summer full of fun and continuous learning.
See you in August!
